We should first say something about our approach to portraits. Senior photography done by specialists seems to emphasize the set, the decorations, the costumes - things that can make an interesting or glamorous photograph. In our view, this distracts from the subject. Our preference is to focus on the person - go for a facial expression, a look, something that makes you feel something about the person, or at least wonder about him or her. We use simple backdrops, a wide range of shooting angles, and natural backgrounds outside. We are experts at turning a raw image into a magazine-quality image. We'll certainly photograph the subject with a happy smile, but we'll usually want to see the subject reveal more depth. Yes, this is getting a bit personal, and not everyone wants to reveal themselves too much. But that's what makes a great portrait. Here are the basics for our program with North Warren: We'll take your photo at no charge, on school premises, on September September 19 and 20, 2007. We're referring to this as Package A. If you want copies of this photo, you'll want Package B. Please come prepared with $28 plus tax and a list of the sizes you want (price list below). The $28 is a "print credit". You can think of it as a coupon good for $28 worth of prints. Alternatively, for NWCS, you can sign up for a convenient extended in-school session, Package C. You can choose one 20 minute session, or two 10-minute sessions that will allow you to change clothing. Weather permitting, we can go outside. Later on, we'll make an appointment for you to visit our studio where we'll show you your photos and provide a proof sheet. You'll select up to three images that we will "finish" by retouching and other artful enhancements. The cost of this option is $98 plus tax (bring to the school session), which includes a credit towards $60 in prints. Students from NWCS and other schools should consider a session in our studio. This year, we're making Package C available in a studio session, as well as our prior options: Package D: We'll spend 60 minutes with you in our studio and/or outside (the Loon Lake Dam is a great spot). You can change clothing as much as you want - whatever you can manage during the hour. You'll return to our studio at a later date to view your photos and select up to five finished images. The cost of this option is $188, which includes a credit towards $100 in prints. Package E: This is a very special 2-hour session. Very relaxed, very flexible. We'll take photos inside against a variety of backdrops - even a "blue screen" so that almost any background can be added. And we'll hit the road and take photos wherever you like - around your home, downtown, no limits. At a later date, you'll visit our studio to review your photos and select up to twelve finished images. The cost of this option is $288, which includes a credit for towards $100 in prints. Due to new technology, most photographers have adopted new methods of proofing. One method is called "Projection", and is the default method for our packages. We'll show you your photos on a screen in our studio, provide a proof sheet, and you select the images to be made into prints. Another method is the "Rights Option", for which we deliver paper proofs, the image files on CD, and a reproduction license. The Rights Option is $20 for A and B, $45 for C, $85 for D and $200 for E. (The print credit cannot be used towards the Rights Option.) Tips: Simple clothing is often best, and shoes suitable for outside (shoes rarely appear in photographs). Avoid fine patterns - they can cause Moiré patterns in digital images. We'll be retouching all images - we will remove temporary features (e.g., acne) - but you'll need to tell us about more permanent features (e.g., a mole, aka beauty mark). Non-shiny makeup is best.
