Fisheye: A technical issue for digital photographers has been a general absence of wide angle lenses, including the extreme form known as fisheyes. But that's history, with the introduction of lenses specifically for digital cameras. We've been having some fun with our new 10.5mm. You'll find more examples scattered among our Wedding Galleries.

We attended the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention in Las Vegas. Thousands of photographers learned the latest from the best, and looked over new equipment and albums. The most buzz was from a $100 lens mounted on a flexible hose, that you push, pull, and twist to get an artfully blurred photo - at least occasionally. Out on the Strip, love birds who asked "Could you take our picture please?" while handing their camera to a stranger often recieved an unexpected treat - photos by a professional wedding photographer.

Album design is a collaborative effort with our clients. We ask for a list of "must haves" and a list of "try to use" images. We invite our clients to go beyond this minimal input, and a few provide more details, even rough page layouts for some or all of the album. Some photographers insist on full control of album design, which indeed produces a better album - from the photographer's point of view, not necessarily the client's. We try to be flexible.

Outdoor wedding tips: Everyone worries about rain, of course, even though we've never been rained on. But wind is nearly always a factor, and a particular threat to candles. We've seen many awkward moments as someone speaks of the great symbolism of the Unity candle while the couple is unable to light it. You'll need something to protect it from the wind.

Another unexpected difficulty is that you may be asking your DJ to manage the ceremony sound. This must be more difficult than it seems, since at least half the time there is a significant problem with wireless microphones and the timing of music. We suggest having the DJ come to your rehearsal, and have backup microphones ready to use.

Mini Albums are now a standard part of our packages. You can't take your full size album to work more than once or twice, you know, but you can have a Mini with you all the time. Most of our clients get three free Mini's, enough to make a bride and two mothers very happy. Our Mini's are exact replicas of the full size album, about three inches square.

Signature print: Megan and John had a signature print at their reception. The photo came from their engagement session with us. This was framed with an extra wide mat. While some use it as a substitute for a guest book, most clients have both. Definitely a crowd pleaser.
